  • Chartwells new Food and Nutrition Guidelines make it easier than ever for students to make healthy food and beverage choices at school.

    Our guidelines:

Provide more deeply colored, nutrient dense, and fiber rich fruits and vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, spinach, peaches, broccoli, and beans. Provide more whole grain foods, such as brown rice and whole wheat. Encourage lean proteins including vegetarian and plant based. Reduce unhealthy fats, sodium, and sugar. Continue Chartwells’ dedication to earth and community friendly practices by serving hormone free milk, poultry products without the routine use of antibiotics, sustainable seafood, cage free shell eggs, and locally grown produce.

The Rochester Public Schools Wellness Advisory Board, a group of dedicated parents and staff along with the Superintendents office partnered in 2006 to create the district's Wellness Policy. The Health and Nutrition Policy was developed in accordance with the National School Lunch Program's Reauthorization Act. The act requires all public school districts produce a detailed policy that addresses the health and well-being of all students. 10-Minutes Lesson Plans

Developed by Chartwells Registered Dietitians, the 10-Minute Nutrition Lesson Plans target lower elementary, upper elementary, middle and high school students on different topics of interest that include breakfast, food and cultures and sustainability. Lesson topics coincide with the Chartbusters promotional calendar and are scripted to be quick and easy to teach, fun, and age appropriate. Each lesson includes a teacher-guide for each three key areas: the EAT cafeteria connection, a LEARN 10-minute classroom lesson, and a LIVE home activity. The plans are practical way to help teachers incorporate more nutrition education into the classroom and promote the Chartwells philosophy of EAT.LEARN.LIVE
